Renewable Energy : Progress Report Card


  • According to Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), India‚Äôs installed clean (renewable) energy capacity has already touched 70 Gigawatts (GW) and 38 GW is under implementation.
  • This shows that India is progressing fast in areas of renewable energy and it is committed to meeting target of having 175 GW renewable energy (100GW Solar, 60 GW Wind, 10 GW Biomass and 5 GW Hydro) by 2022.
  • The 70 GW installed renewable energy capacity in country is double of capacity four year back.
  • So far, around 56,000 solar power pumps were installed in FY 2017-18, which is highest ever in single year.
  • The renewable energy capacity of 11,788 MW was s added during FY 2017-18, which was the highest ever in single year.
  • MNRE has boasted about discovering lowest wind and solar power tariff of Rs 2.43 and Rs 2.44 per unit, respectively, in the last fiscal through tariff based competitive bidding.
