  • It is the first multilateral legally-binding instrument for nuclear disarmament to have been negotiated in 20 years.
  • The treaty was open for signature during the annual UN General Assembly in November 2017.
  • As of September 20, 50 states had signed treaty, which bans use, development, testing or storing of nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
  • The treaty is not signed by and will not apply to any of the states that already have nuclear arms.
