Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP)

  • TPP is a Trade Agreement among 12 Pacific Rim countries
  • It was signed on 4 February 2016 in Auckland, New Zealand
  • It has not entered into force
  • Goals:
    • promote economic growth;
    • support the creation and retention of jobs;
    • enhance innovation, productivity and competitiveness;
    • raise living standards;
    • reduce poverty in our countries;
    • promote transparency, good governance,
    • enhanced labor and environmental protections
  • 12 Signatories:
    • USA, (USA has withdrawn from TPP in Jan 2017)
    • Canada,
    • Mexico,
    • Chile,
    • Peru,
    • Japan,
    • Australia,
    • New Zealand,
    • Malaysia,
    • Brunei,
    • Singapore,
    • Vietnam
  • The agreement covers 40% of the world’s economy
  • India is not a part of this.
  • It can not be ratified now as USA has withdrawn from it.
