Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2021 – UPSC Prelims

  • India is ranked 85/180
  • Index released by NGO Transparency International
  • India’s ranking improved 1 place from 86 last year.
  • Except Bhutan, all of India’s neighbours are ranked below it.
  • However, the CPI score for India is constant at 40 this year as well as in 2019.
  • CPI ranks countries on a scale of zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean) based on their perceived levels of corruption in the public sector.
  • The index is compiled by using data of World Bank, World Economic Forum (WEF) and other institutions.
  • Denmark, Finland and New Zealand are ranked 1
