Teacher/Leader/Reformer – UPSC Ethics

Differentiate between a teacher, leader and reformer. Give an example for each who’s a role model for you and discuss the human values that you have learned from each one of them. (150 Words)

Teacher imparts academic knowledge directly and moral education indirectly as well in form of values and mannerisms. Though first teachers are parents but gradually educational teachers take over and leave their imprints on us for good.
Give an example.
A leader is one who leads a group from the front and takes everyone along while moving towards a common goal. Example Gandhiji, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose etc during our freedom struggle.
Reformers are the activists who help bring change in society by working at various social, political and economic fronts. These are the people who have a vision and work diligently towards achieving it.
In the contemporary India, there is an impression that teachers are mostly limited to education institutions for giving knowledge on syllabus, leaders to political parties and reformers to civil society.
In the conclusion, we can say that the three roles are not disparate and we have many examples of the combined characteristics. Like Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar was a Sanskrit teacher, leader of people and a reformer for widow remarriage.
