Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS) – UPSC Prelims

Aims at addressing the environmental issues faced by the textile units in India
Scheme:
  • To establish four to six brownfield projects and three to five greenfield projects under the cost of Rs. 500 crore.
  • To provide government support to develop a common infrastructure that will speed up the private sector investments in the major processing clusters.
  • To make the textiles industry globally competitive by setting up new processing parks and adopting to processing standards and technology which are environmentally friendly.
  • To support the up-gradation of existing processing clusters/centres specifically in the field of water and wastewater management.
  • To promote works related to research and development in the textiles-processing sector.
  • IPDS focuses majorly on the following three areas:
    1. Wastewater management
    2. Adequate and timely supply of water
    3. Safe treatment of effluents before disposal
