Al mission is a five-year programme announced in 2018 Budget. NITI Aayog was mandated to establish National Program on Al, to guide research and development in new and emerging technologies.

Now, It is being reported that MeitY will roll out the Al mission, resolving a long-standing issue of which arm of the administration would implement the prestigious project.

Main focus of the mission will be on developing Al capabilities and cutting edge technologies to become a leading nation in Al field.

While premier institutes like IITs will be involved in research, industry will be roped in for actual implementation.

Also, Government is already running several centres of excellence in areas such as Al, fintech and agritech, which will all be subsumed under the mission.
