  • The act “The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 1993” lapsed in February 2004.
  • It is now acting as a non-statutory body of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment whose tenure is extended from time to time through Government Resolutions.
  • It aims to promote and safeguard the interests and rights of Safai Karamcharis.
  • Its mandate is to study, evaluate and monitor the implementation of various schemes for Safai Karamcharis as an autonomous organisation.
