Values are picked in early childhood very quick. Early incidents involving emotion leave a permanent impression in mind. Hence things that scared one in childhood continue to do so for the life. It takes a moment, one corporal punishment, for a child to be permanently scared of his/her teacher. The child will lose confidence, courage to ask question, interest in interaction, inquisitiveness and inquiring mind will not develop. Little bit of corporal punishment can actually prove every bit of teaching effort fruitless.
Making mistakes is part of learning process. When Columbia University was asked the reason of sending so many successful people in the world, their answer was, we teach our student it’s OK to fail. Student should be taught to learn from their mistakes, not get scared when committed one.
Corporal punishment comes from anger. It is immoral for adults to show anger on children who have not developed apparatus to receive such strong emotion. It is immoral to take shortcut of corporal punishment rather that motivating and persuading which takes time, energy and expertise.
